Skin Needling

Skin needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is one of the most clinically validated skin treatments available. Using a medical-grade device to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, it triggers your body's natural wound-healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production from within. The result: smoother texture, reduced scarring, firmer skin, and a complexion that improves progressively with each session.
How It Works
A sterile, medical-grade needling device passes across the skin at a precise depth tailored to your concern and skin type. The micro-injuries stimulate fibroblasts (the cells responsible for collagen and elastin) without damaging surrounding tissue. A high-quality serum is applied during treatment to maximise absorption and support healing. At DOSE, every needling protocol is designed by Brittni (a registered nurse and dermal clinician) who can treat at deeper levels than a standard therapist, delivering more significant and longer-lasting results.
Who Is It For?
Skin needling suits a wide range of clients and concerns, including:
- Fine lines and early signs of ageing
- Skin laxity and loss of firmness
- Acne scarring and post-inflammatory marks
- Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
- Dull or sluggish complexion
- Stretch marks
- General skin health maintenance and longevity
- All Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker skin tones. Skin needling carries no heat risk, making it one of the safest advanced treatments available across the full skin tone spectrum
Who Is It Not For?
Skin needling is not suitable for clients who:
- Have active skin infections, cold sores, or open wounds in the treatment area
- Are currently using Roaccutane (isotretinoin) or have done so in the last 6–12 months
- Have a history of keloid scarring
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain autoimmune conditions or are on blood-thinning medications
- Have active, inflammatory acne across the treatment area (though this can often be managed, ask Brittni)
If you're unsure whether you're suitable, book a consultation before committing to treatment.
What to Expect
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepped. The needling device is then passed across the treatment area in precise, overlapping passes. Most clients describe the sensation as mild vibration or scratching, manageable and brief. The treatment takes approximately 60 minutes including prep and aftercare. Redness and mild swelling are normal for 24–48 hours, and you'll leave with full written aftercare instructions.
Sessions & Results
Most clients see noticeable improvement after their first session, with optimal results over a course of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Results continue to develop for up to 3 months after each session as new collagen matures. Maintenance every 3–6 months sustains results long-term.
FAQs
Is skin needling painful? Most clients find it very manageable. The sensation is typically described as mild vibration or scratching.
How long does the redness last? Mild redness and sensitivity usually resolve within 24–48 hours. Some clients have no visible redness by the following morning.
Can I wear makeup after skin needling? Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours to allow the micro-channels to close. Mineral-based makeup can be applied after 24 hours if needed.
How many sessions will I need? For general maintenance and early ageing, 3–6 sessions is a common starting point. For deeper scarring or laxity more may be recommended. Brittni will advise at consultation.
Is skin needling safe for darker skin tones? Yes. Skin needling is one of the safest advanced treatments for all skin tones including Fitzpatrick IV–VI. No heat is involved, so the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation changes is very low.
